Ficus Microcarpa

The Ginseng Ficus is a popular, low-maintenance evergreen tree often grown as an indoor bonsai. It is easily recognized by its thick, bulbous, aerial roots that rise above the soil, resembling the root of a ginseng plant, and its dense canopy of small, dark green, leathery leaves.

Lighting:

  • Bright Light

Watering:

  • Water thoroughly only when the top 3-4 cm of soil is dry. Avoid water logging to prevent root rot.

Environment:

  • Do not place plant directly in the path of blowing air-con units.

  • This plant is toxic to pets and humans if ingested.

  • Thrives in high humidity; mist regularly or use a pebble tray.

Tips:

  • Common Issues: Yellowing leaves or, in extreme cases, leaf drop can indicate overwatering or underwatering.

  • It is prone to dropping leaves when moved or when experiencing sudden changes in temperature or light, often leading to panic among new owners.
